Fat Albert was the central character of the 1970s TV cartoon series Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids, created by stand-up comedian Bill Cosby. The first appearance of an animated Fat Albert was in 1969, in a special TV show that showcased characters based on Cosby's early years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Saturday morning cartoon began airing in 1972 and continued until 1982, when it went into syndication (having been re-titled The New Fat Albert Show in 1979). The characters, many of them originally voiced by Cosby, included Rudy, Mush Mouth, Bill, Dumb Donald, Old Weird Harold, and Russell -- African-American urban kids whose adventures inevitably resulted in lessons on social issues such as bullying, peer pressure, honesty and integrity. In the early 1990s plans were hatched to create a feature-length, live-action film based on the popular cartoon, and after a decade of production obstacles, it was announced in 2003 that the movie would be released in late 2004, with actor Kenan Thompson in the title role.
Extra credit: Fat Albert's signature line was "Hey, hey, hey, it's Fat Albert!"... Pop singers Aaron Carter and Omarion had small roles in the feature film... Not only did Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids represent the first U.S. cartoon featuring African-Americans as central characters, it was among the first children's cartoons to focus on educational and social issues... Although the character of Fat Albert is based on Cosby's childhood experiences and is mentioned on his early comedy records, the image known now as Fat Albert comes from the animated series.

Betty Boop was the cartoon cutie developed by Max Fleischer for Paramount Studio's Talkartoons cartoon series. Oddly, Betty Boop began life as a dog, but by 1930 she had evolved into a coy flapper whose innocent skirt-lifting and trademark line "boop-boop-a-doop" were sweetly suggestive of more than just singing and dancing. She made her debut on 8 August 1930 in "Dizzy Dishes," the sixth installment of the Talkartoon series. Boop was a big hit right away, and starred in over 100 cartoons from 1931 to 1939. Her design was altered several times in response to critics of her hubba-hubba look, and over the years she became increasingly less saucy (and less popular). Thanks to a Boop Renaissance in the 1990s, with her smiling image showing up on everything from jewelry to slot machines, Betty Boop has continued to have strong merchandising power into the 21st century.

Scooby-Doo was the title star of a long-running Saturday-morning cartoon of the 1970s, 1980s. and beyond. A comically nervous Great Dane, Scooby spent each episode hunting ghosts with four human teenagers, including the always-hungry hippie boy Shaggy, the brainy Velma, the buff Fred and the beautiful Daphne. (The group drove around in a van called the Mystery Machine.) In the 1990s Scooby-Doo returned as a nostalgic pop icon for Generation X. A Scooby-Doo feature film was released in 2002, with a computer-generated Scooby cavorting with a live-action cast including Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. The film was a hit, and a sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, followed in 2004.

The voice of Scooby's human pal Shaggy was provided by American Top 40 radio personality Casey Kasem... Scrappy-Doo, a puppyish nephew of Scooby-Doo, appeared in some episodes of the cartoon; Scrappy is famously disliked by many devoted Scooby fans.

The Yellow Kid was the creation of Richard Felton Outcault and is considered the first American comic strip character to be a popular star. The character first appeared in Truth magazine in 1894. By 1895 Outcault had a steady gig at the New York World newspaper, drawing a strip called "Hogan's Alley." One of the many characters was Mickey Dugan, a bald, big-eared youth in an oversized nightshirt. In color editions, the nightshirt was yellow, and within a few months readers were clamoring for more of The Yellow Kid. Outcault was hired away from the World in 1896 to work at William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal. For a time The Yellow Kid appeared in both newspapers, in Hogan's Alley at the World (drawn by George B. Luks) and in McFadden's Row of Flats (by Outcault) in the Journal. The Yellow Kid was the first comic strip character to have a line of merchandise, including gum, cigarettes and toys. By 1899 the popularity of the Kid waned as Outcault focused on another character (Buster Brown) and new comic strips and characters caught the public eye.
Extra credit: The newspapers that carried The Yellow Kid were sometimes called "yellow papers," and their reputation for sensational reports (of questionable veracity) led to the term "yellow journalism."

Irrespective of the specie – excluding cockroaches of course – people always consider that baby animals are the most adorable thing on God’s green earth. Cubs have a certain appeal that, more often than not, seems to fade when the animal reaches maturity. To put it simply, while an animal has a debatable degree of “cuteness” that is mostly a matter of the personal opinion, during the early infancy stages you simply cannot look at it without exclaiming “Awwww!”

It is unknown whether or not the cuteness represents an evolved defensive mechanism for the animal that is otherwise helpless without the mother at this point and if the nurturing instincts of the parents are also influenced by it. Strangely enough, as theorized by Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz, the cuteness is not an adaptation proprietary to primates and humans, but rather the babies of these species present distinct features that enable parents to recognize them. All the adaptations are made to suit the requirements of the environment, which means that the cuteness factor is obsolete. Let’s find out more about the things that make us love baby animals.

1. Puppies are the probably most helpless ones in the bunch

PuppiesA puppy that is separated from its mother after birth has very few trump cards – aside of course from the adorable look that could get him adopted – and consequentially, limited chances of survival. To put it simply, the newborn puppy is deaf, blind and has no teeth, which means that it is virtually at the mercy of the world. Even the sense of smell, the trademark of the canine regnum, develops much later on, more exactly in about three weeks after being born. Therefore, you can’t really blame them for spending the first week sleeping 90% of the time, there aren’t many other things they can do for fun.

2. Kittens are born with different bone structures, based on the breed

KittensIn spite of the fact that the vast majority of kittens (over 90%) are born with the same blood type – A – their bone structure and the number of bones can differ radically from one breed to another. That is why certain breeds of cats grow significantly longer than others and the exponents are faster, more agile and have the ability to switch running direction easier.

3. Puppies and kitten share the same sweat gland position

Puppies and kittenThe feline and the canine regnum may have differences since the end of time and a situation where the two types of animals actually get along are rare, but there is one thing they have in common: the position of the sweat glands. In other words, unlike most animals, both kittens and puppies are born with the sweat in the pads of the paws. However, only puppies pant in order to vent excess heat and when a kitten exhibits a panting behavior it typically indicates it is exposed to some form of stress.

4. Parrots give their offspring names

Researchers have determined that soon after the parrot chick hatches from the eggs, its parents will give him a name which will also constitute the signature call of the bird. As the little parrot matures, he will adapt the original signature call to his “taste”, shortening/lengthening it with whistling or chirping. In other words, the parrot transforms his initial name into a nickname.

5. Baby chimpanzees love to play with dolls

At the same time, research shows that in most cases the behavior persists through maturity. Before you are quick to discard this hypothesis and attribute it to a nurturing instinct, you should know that several studies shown baby chimpanzees used the dolls in very different games that held no resemblance to the natural cradling/nurturing behavior.
